What’s Hot This Week, Fontaines D.C. to the Moon

A nearly full moon for tonight, a record week for Fontaines D.C., an early close in Paris and the hair color of the season.

Here is what’s hot this week, from the sky to the salon. It is a short list, because Monday deserves mercy, and every item on our what’s hot this week list is sourced and linked.

1. The Hunter’s Moon, still glowing tonight

October’s full moon, the Hunter’s Moon, peaked at 12:12 a.m. EDT this morning, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac. So the technical moment has passed. Still, the Almanac notes that the moon looks nearly full on the evenings around its peak. Tonight is a lovely second chance.

The tip is simple. Find an open spot with a clear view to the east and look for the moon around sunset. No telescope needed. The name comes from tradition, per the Almanac. This is the full moon after the Harvest Moon, a time once linked to hunting and preparing meat for winter.

2. Fontaines D.C. top the UK albums chart

Next, music. Fontaines D.C. took No. 1 on the UK albums chart with Dopamine Chamber, per Official Charts. The band shifted over 70,000 chart units in the album’s first week. That is the third-biggest opening week for an album in 2026 so far, behind Harry Styles and Olivia Rodrigo.

Official Charts also reported that it is the fastest-selling Irish studio album in 15 years, since Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires in 2011. It is the band’s second No. 1, after Skinty Fia in 2022.

Elsewhere on the chart, Rachel Chinouriri earned her first Top 10 with her second album, I think I spoke too soon, at No. 9. And Zach Bryan’s new EP debuted at No. 11. For more of this month’s releases, see our guide to new albums for October 2026.

3. Art Basel Paris closed early

Meanwhile, in art news, Art Basel Paris ended its 2026 edition ahead of schedule. According to The Art Newspaper, the fair at the Grand Palais set a 7 p.m. close on Friday, October 23. It was due to stay shut on Saturday and Sunday. The decision followed mass demonstrations across France, with more protests planned in central Paris for the weekend.

The fair’s message to VIP guests, quoted by The Art Newspaper, put safety first: “the safety of everyone involved in the fair remains our utmost priority.” Before the early close, the fair had already seen big-ticket sales. These included Julie Mehretu’s Rise of the New Suprematists (2001), tagged at $7.8 million with White Cube. For our preview of the week, see our Paris art week guide.

4. Teak brunette, the hair color of the season

Finally, beauty. Vogue reported on the Princess of Wales’s warmer, more golden hair color during the Sultan of Oman’s state visit last week. In the same story, color specialist Siobhan Haug, founder of Haug London Haus salon, gave the shade a name: “teak brunette.”

“On hair, it translates into a medium to dark brown with golden, tawny undertones,” Haug told Vogue. To try it, Haug suggests balayage with “honeyed tones that sit within two levels of your brunette base,” finished with a shine-enhancing gloss.

Bonus: what’s hot this week at the box office

If you went to the movies this weekend, you have company. Clayface opened at No. 1, and a three-hour documentary kept growing. The full story is in this morning’s weekend box office report.

That’s what’s hot this week. Enjoy the moon tonight.
