The pop culture news this week came in fast. Two albums arrived on Friday, the Nobel in Literature went to Anne Carson on Thursday, the Whitney opened a Lichtenstein show on Sunday and a new Daniel Humm restaurant opened its doors. Here is the pop culture news this week, with a source for every item.

The record of the week: Troye Sivan’s She’s the Best

Troye Sivan released She’s the Best, his fourth studio album, on Friday, October 9. According to Universal Music Canada’s release announcement, it has 12 tracks. It also arrived with a new single, “FF.” The closing track, “Lost Time,” features Lily-Rose Depp.

The album is his first new music since signing with Interscope Records, the label’s August announcement said. That same announcement said Gordon von Steiner directed the title-track video, which features Nicole Kidman. The label also called the album a project “meant to be watched as much as listened to.”

Our pick to start with is the title track. After that, try “FF,” the single that arrived with the album.

Also out Friday: Remi Wolf’s Mud

Remi Wolf released Mud on the same day. It is her third album, on Island Records, with 11 songs, per her label. In addition, her label says she plays two small release shows, Los Angeles on Saturday and Webster Hall in New York on Tuesday, October 13. For New Yorkers, that is the easiest way to hear the new songs live this week.

Catching up on last week’s records

Two albums from Friday, October 2, are still in heavy rotation here. First, Miranda Lambert released Crisco on MCA, which the AP called a country-disco album. It has 12 tracks, including duets with Chris Stapleton and Ella Langley, plus a Jim Croce cover. Second, Victoria Monét released Frequency of Love on Lovett/RCA, as Billboard reported when she announced it in July. If your weekend needs a soundtrack, either one works.

The museum story in our pop culture news this week

The Whitney opened “Roy Lichtenstein: Like New” on Sunday, October 11. It runs through May 10, 2027, so there is no rush. Still, opening weeks are fun. According to the Whitney, it is the first New York retrospective of his work since 1993, and it includes four re-created murals.

We wrote a full guide to pop art in New York, with ticket prices and a one-day route that pairs the Whitney with other pop stops around town. As always, check the museum’s site for timed tickets before you go.

A Nobel for Anne Carson

On Thursday, October 8, the Swedish Academy gave the Nobel Prize in Literature to the Canadian author Anne Carson, according to the Nobel Prize press release. For our editors, it was the happiest headline of the week. Carson writes poetry, essays and translations, and she often mixes all three in one book.

If you have never read her, do not worry. Our guide to Anne Carson books picks four places to start. In short, begin with the novel in verse, and work outward from there.

The table everyone wants: Humm

Daniel Humm’s new restaurant, Humm, opened Saturday, October 10, at 435 Hudson Street in the West Village. Eater NY reported the details on October 1, the same day reservations opened. There are three places to sit, according to Eater. The dining room serves the full menu, while the bar and the lounge have smaller food menus.

We have not eaten there yet. Even so, our guide to Humm restaurant collects everything the restaurant and Eater have shared, from the address to how the rooms work. For now, set an alert on the booking page and be patient.

Paris, wrapped

The last item in the pop culture news this week comes from France. Paris Fashion Week closed on Tuesday, October 6, the last day on the federation’s Spring/Summer 2027 calendar. If you missed the week, our Paris Fashion Week takeaways sum up the shows and the looks people are still talking about. Then, when you have a quiet hour, go back to the houses you love and watch the full films.

How we pick the pop culture news this week

Every Monday, we round up the pop culture news this week that our editors could not stop talking about. If it made the list, we link the source, and if we have not seen, heard or eaten it yet, we say so. That way, the list stays useful and honest.

Finally, a small plan for your week. Put on She’s the Best tonight. Book a Whitney slot for the weekend. Then pick up one Anne Carson book for the subway.
