Chris Pratt says Star-Lord is coming back. According to Variety, Pratt said that Peter Quill will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that “hard action” has been taken to make it happen. Here is what Chris Pratt said about Star-Lord, on the record, and nothing more.
What Chris Pratt said about Star-Lord
Pratt made the comments on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast, and Variety reported them on October 21. He was discussing Star-Lord’s comeback, and he named Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Lou D’Esposito.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito], and there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise,” Pratt said, according to Variety.
Then he went further: “So yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting, but I’m not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”
In other words, there is no film, date or plot to report. Pratt did not say where the character will appear, so we will not guess.
He has pitched ideas before
This is not the first time Pratt has talked about the role. Months earlier, Variety noted, he said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he had pitched Marvel an idea for bringing the character back.

“I’m happy to do anything they want me to do and will,” Pratt said on that show, as Variety quoted him. When asked whether he had already pitched Feige, he answered “Yep,” and said he had “a pretty strong idea” of how he could contribute.
Where the Chris Pratt Star-Lord story left off
So far, Pratt has played the character in six films, per Variety:
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Avengers: Infinity War
- Avengers: Endgame
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The last of those, Vol. 3, closed with a promise. As Variety put it, the film’s credits included text saying Star-Lord would return. That is the promise Pratt was talking about when he said Marvel wants to “make good” on it.
What comes next for Marvel
The next Marvel film is Avengers: Doomsday, which opens in theaters on December 18, Variety reported. Pratt did not say whether Star-Lord appears in it, and Variety did not report that he does. So for now, the only safe answer is the one Pratt gave: he is not going anywhere.
