A DC villain took No. 1 at the weekend box office. A three-hour documentary kept growing. And a stop-motion fable beat its studio’s last outing. All figures below are Sunday estimates from Deadline, so expect small changes when actuals arrive.
The weekend box office top five
Here is how the top of the chart looked, per Deadline’s Sunday report:
- Clayface (Warner Bros.): about $24.5 million in its opening weekend at 3,458 theaters. Deadline’s headline and chart round that to $24 million.
- You Can See Everything (A24): $19.5 million in its second weekend, up 25%, for a total of $45.1 million.
- Wildwood (Fathom/Laika): $11.6 million in its opening weekend.
- Street Fighter (Paramount): $8.6 million, down 72% in weekend two, for a total of $46.9 million.
- Wicker (Black Bear): $5.75 million in its opening weekend at 1,471 theaters.
Overall, Deadline put the whole North American market at about $101 million for the weekend, up 33% from a year ago.
Clayface wins the weekend
Clayface, the James Watkins-directed DC film starring Tom Rhys Harries, opened at No. 1. In addition, Deadline reported a global start of $43 million. Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore. Deadline called that a big result for a DC title and for a genre film.

In our opinion, that score matters more than the opening. Genre titles usually land in the B or C range, per Deadline. So an A- suggests good word of mouth heading into Halloween week.
A documentary that keeps climbing
The bigger story may be at No. 2. You Can See Everything is the A24 documentary from Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder. It earned more in its second weekend than in its first. Also, it went wide this weekend, expanding to 2,655 theaters.
Deadline called a second frame that outgrosses its opening “spectacular.” A24 first played the film in under 1,000 theaters to build buzz, then went wide. That plan paid off in this weekend box office.
Wildwood and Wicker
Laika’s Wildwood, directed by Travis Knight and released by Fathom, earned an A CinemaScore, per Deadline. Its $11.6 million start is also well ahead of Laika’s 2019 film Missing Link. That one opened to $5.9 million, per Deadline.
Meanwhile, Wicker, the period comedy starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, posted a strong start for a specialty release. Deadline compared it to Conclave’s $6.6 million opening.
Further down the chart
Klara and the Sun, the Taika Waititi film starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams, opened to about $725,000, per Deadline. Ortega told Vogue this month that she does not read reviews or check the box office, as Variety reported, and we wrote about that in our column on reading reviews.
What is next at the weekend box office
Expect a soft weekend box office next time. Halloween falls on a Saturday, and Deadline expects a weak frame as a result. Wide releases on The Numbers’ release schedule for Friday, October 30, include The Mongoose and Christmas at the Kringles. Calendars change often, so check local listings.
